Parkinson's Disease Treatment in Brazzini Radiologicos Asociados
|
Parkinson’s patients will be given stem cell treatment only if they prove to be suitable candidates. If the patient passes the first level of screening, an additional interview will take place, where questions and doubts can be cleared, and where the benefits and risks will be outlined. This interview is filmed, and an informed consent form is signed. The procedure itself begins by the extraction of 400cc of bone marrow from the patient by a team of hematologists and clinical pathologists. The patient is lightly sedated and experiences no pain. This procedure lasts approximately 40 minutes. Using vascular catheterism techniques, the stem cells are implanted in the patient. Care is taken to place the cells in the affected area, preferably where the perforating arteries originate. This phase take about two to three hours. The vascular catheterism is performed through the artery located near the groin. |
