Brazzini Radiologicos Asociados, located in Lima, Peru, is a medical institute specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases with the aid of imaging. They provide stem cell therapy for a variety of diseases including cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, and heart disease.
A patient seeking an evaluation for stem cell implant will first be seen by a physician specialized in his disease; i.e. a cardiologist for heart diseases, a neurologist for Parkinson’s, stroke or cerebral hypoxia, a gastroenterologist for hepatic cirrhosis, a vascular surgeon for peripheral vascular disease, an endocrinologist for diabetes, or an ophthalmologist for retinal diseases. If, following this evaluation, the patient is considered a suitable candidate, additional tests will be performed.
The Brazzini Institute does not use embryonic stem cells. They use adult stem cells, which are found in abundance in bone marrow, where they are being constantly renewed.
While the institute aims to cure patients, they offer stem cell therapy with a caveat that this is not a cure but a relief from suffering that can improve the patient’s quality of life. How long the effects will last is not known, however their patients have shown an improvement of between 15 and 80%, most of them over 50%.
Brazzini stresses the importance of follow up. For that reason, they provide free consultations with a neurologist over the two months after treatment. He determines the necessary medication based on the patient’s symptoms.
After a period of between three and six months, new neurons start to appear. These new neurons must be able to be integrated with other surrounding neurons through neurotransmitters. Brazzini perform telephone follow-ups, which are important for those living outside of Lima.
