|
Age at time of treatment: 6 years old
Illness: Batten Disease
Country of Residence: United States
Hospital: Tiantan Puhua Hospital
Date of Treatment: October, 2007
My Story:In 2005, when he was three years old, Blake started to show signs of speech delay. He later suffered from seizures, head drops and lose of balance. By 2006, little Blake was diagnosed with Batten disease which causes sudden, rapid degeneration to the nervous system and always ends in premature fatality, often between the ages of 6 and 12. On Oct 13rd, 2007, Blake began treatment at Tiantan Hospital. Within weeks, he started to show improvement. Blake became much more active and alert, and he gained some control over his arms and legs. His coordination improved significantly, making it possible to clap his hands which he couldn't do before. Toward the end of the two months treatment, Blake was able to sit unsupported, he was able to lift his chest, hold his head up and lift his arms above his head and swallow and chew better than before. Blake also displayed significant emotional improvements, becoming much more alert, smiling and laughing more often. Blake and his father returned to Tiantan Puhua in March 2009 for a second round of stem cell treatments. |
