My Story:

Gilda Bertran was an athlete, frequently participating in marathons and triathlons before she developed a back condition. She had to undergo three spinal surgeries to correct the problem. Following the third surgery, her overall condition deteriorated. She started to walk with a stiff hand and dragged her foot. Her right hand and leg started shaking. She blamed it on the surgery and thought it would wear off, but it didn’t. In November of 2008, an MRI of her brain and back showed that she had Parkinson's disease. In December, a neurologist confirmed the diagnosis and prescribed Parkinson's medication. The medication helped. Her walking improved a little she had fewer tremors. She was no longer bent forward when she walked.
Gilda had her first stem cell treatment in February of 2009 in Cologne. Her own adult stem cells were re-implanted into her body by means of lumbar puncture.
Before treatment Gilda Bertran’s face appeared blank and sad. The first improvement was a change in her facial expressions. This improvement came almost immediately following the procedure. She felt generally better. After two to three months, her tremor was reduced by 80 - 90 %. Now her hand only shakes a little when she feels nervous.
Gilda used to run 10 km. (6.2 miles) every day before falling ill and before her surgeries. Today she is still active and pushes herself, walking 6 km. (3.7 miles) every day and swimming often.
After her stem cell therapy, some of her old energy returned, however, her walking is not very good right now. Her right leg still drags. Gilda Bertran has decided to undergo an additional stem cell treatment in October of 2009.
