Griffin Perez
Age at time of treatment: 4 years old
Illness: Cerebral Palsy
Country of Residence: United States
Hospital: XCell-Center
Date of Treatment: September, 2009

My Story:

Griffin weighed just 3 pounds, 5 ounces (1.5 kilos) at birth. He was a premature baby, born at 30 weeks due to placental abruption (a separation of the placenta from the uterine lining).
Griffin's diagnosis is closest to diplegia, but he also suffers from some sensory/autism issues. He can speak a little and can crawl. He does not suffer from seizures. Griffin walks with the aid of a walker. He has not required any surgeries. He uses his ankle-foot orthoses (AFO - braces) less than before and has switched to hinged AFOs in place of the one-piece type he used previously.

First Stem Cell Treatment
In April 2009, Griffin underwent his first stem cell treatment at the XCell-Center. Cognitive improvements began to appear after about 3 weeks. Physical improvements began after three to six months. Griffin showed an improvement in his muscle tone. In addition, his attention span and ability to engage others got better. He no longer requires Botox, which was needed twice before stem cell therapy.

Second Stem Cell Treatment
Griffin's returned to the XCell-center for a second treatment in September 2009. At writing, three months have passed since that treatment. Griffin's verbalization skills show an improvement. He can now imitate conversation with babble responses, pauses, and says "yeah", "no", "ok", "i did it", "there ya go", and a number of other words. He can now steer his walker away from obstacles, whereas before, he ran into them.
